Commonly known as Amritha or Guduchi, widely distributed throughout tropical and sub tropical India. Stem terete often producing foliform aerial roots. Tastes intensively bitter and odorless. All parts of the plant are useful. The aerial parts are used to extract the active principles.

Guggal is a spiny shrub or small tree with many branches, usually growing two or three meters high, that is native to India, Arabia and Pakistan. It is found in the arid, rocky tracts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka in India. The Commiphora mukul tree has an ash-colored bark that comes off in large rough flakes, exposing the under bark that also peels away. The tree remains without any foliage for most of the year.

It has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral abilities. It is used for strengthening the immune system, promoting oral health, and treating fatigue, gastric distress, pneumonia, cancer, and AIDS. Triphala is available in supplement form (as a pill) and as a liquid extract.
